Tendre Nuits by Isabey c1944

Tendres Nuits by Isabey was filed for US trademark in 1944. I believe it was withdrawn soon after production. A competitor, Lancome, released their perfume, Tendres Nuits in 1935. During WWII, importations of Lancome fragrances such as Tropiques, Tendres Nuit, Fleches, Cuir, Conquete, Bocages, Peut Etre, and Kypre were halted and did not return to US soil until 1946.

Bottles:

Tendres Nuits was housed in a narrow, clear glass flacon fitted with a flat, rectangular stopper of frosted glass. This was a complete departure from the ornate and luxurious bottles used by Isabey in the past. The main reason for the change was because the older styled bottles were too expensive to produce. The Great Depression forced many other perfume brands to simplify their bottling and create omnibus flacons that would be used for the entire fragrance range. As a result, Isabey opted to offer their fragrances in a less expensive flacon, which would now become the standard used for the Isabey fragrances in the 1930s and into the 1940s. Isabey filled and boxed up its remaining luxe bottles and sold the old stock at reduced prices to retailers who then put them up on clearance for half price and less.

Fate of the Fragrance:

The name "Tendres Nuits"  was filed by Isabey for US trademark in 1944.

Revival of Tendres Nuits:

The long discontinued perfume was resurrected under the name, Tendre Nuit, by Isabey in 2018.

From Isabey:

"The Story: First created by Isabey Paris in 1944 in New York, Tendre Nuit (Tender night) is remembered for its romantic name, like a whisper. The poetic and flamboyant plum colour of the bottle combined with voluptuous night Rose and animal Ambrette seeds fragrance are inspired by emotions of a tender and passionate night. It is 3 am in Paris, she is sitting on the edge of her bed in a room filled by sensations. Love is floating in the air, sweet and sensual like a night Rose. A warm breeze from the balcony thru the room is caressing her skin. The night is tender, her life is a dream."

Fragrance Composition:

From Isabey:

"The Fragrance: A night of love and passion when the quintessence of femininity is revealed by an extraordinary swirl of Rose Oil and Absolute. Coupled with Ambroxan, the Queen of flowers is wrapped in an addictive mystery, and finally opens on the powdery drydown of Ambrette, for a caressing sensuality. The unforgettable fragrance of a desired and beloved skin."

So what does it smell like? It is classified as a floral amber fragrance for women.
  • Top notes: Almond, Pink Pepper
  • Middle notes: Rose oil, Rose Absolut, Ambrette seeds
  • Base notes: Ambroxan, Cashmeran, Benzoin, Vanilla Co2

Bottles:

Tendre Nuit Eau de Parfum is housed inside of a bottle that combines modern design with a 1920s Isabey bottle originally produced by Czech master glass craftsman, Ludwig Moser. You can purchase the 50ml flacon directly from Parfums Isabey's website. A 10ml travel flacon of the eau de parfum was also released which is great for carrying in your handbag.

Le Collier d'Isabey Perfume Presentation c1925

This rare perfume set is called " Le Collier d'Isabey " and came out in 1925. Isabey won a gold medal in 1925, when it introduced "Le Collier d'Isabey" (the Isabey Necklace) at the Paris Exhibition. It is also known as "Le Collier Parfume" (the perfumed necklace). The presentation consisted of six pearl shaped perfume bottles arranged to simulate a pearl necklace in a demi-lune presentation case. Andre Jolivet used his "laitance de hareng" pearlization technique for the bottles.

Isabey also made usage of these small round bottles for their individual perfumes such as Ambre de Carthage, Chypre Celtique, Bleu de Chine, Violette, Gardenia and Chypre.
